Birds with masks and berries

I wanted to explore the idea of animals with masks as companions or guides for people in transit: when they find themselves from a country to another or from life to death. I went back to the idea of a thread of life and imagined rowan berries like spiritual balls of yarn that stretched like a trail of bread crumbs to find one’s way and stay connected.

I made these illustrations with black and blue ink, color pencils and digital retouch.
